Minister for Industry,Commerce and Public Enterprise, AssamBimal Borah attended a areview meeting on Rubber Plantation with the Union Minister for Commerce& Industry at Itanagar today. The meeting was presided over by the Union Minister PiyushGoyal .
In the review meeting the various policies and programs are discussed under the ActEastPolicy. Which was initiated under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendramodi at the Center which are complemented by those of the Govt of Assam led by Chief Ministet Dr. Himantabiswa Sarma Assam has witnessed a phenomenal and unprecedented industrial growth trajectory
The rubber industry is one of such ,which impacts economies globally, generating jobs from cultivation to manufacturing, contributing significantly to global trade, earning foreign exchange.
The NE MITRA scheme; a collaborative effort between the Rubber Board and the rubber-consuming industries has been playing a significant role in amplifying rubber cultivation and setting ambitious targets for planting and production
While addressing the meeting Industry Minister Bimal Borah emphasized how Assam today leads the North Eastern region in rubber plantation coverage of 61,716 hectares with an annual production of 58,359 Metric Tonnes.
Also underscored how Chief Minister Dr. Himantabiswa Sarma’s visionary amendment of the Assam Industrial Policy has yielded an investment of over ₹13,000 crores and also laid the stage for setting up of the Semi Conductor Plant by the Tata Group valued at around ₹22,000 crores. The Minister also conveyed by immense gratitude to Union Minister for Commerce & Industry PiyushGoyal for the continuous support and guidance by the Union reiterating commitment of the state Government in its collaborative efforts in achieving the goal of establishing the Assam and the North East as the next engine of growth of the nation and a hub of industrial innovation and prosperity.
The meeting was also attended by the Minister for Commerce & Industry, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, NyatoDukam , Addl Secy (Plantations), Dept of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Commissioner, Industries & Commerce, Govt of Assam, Oinam Sarankumar Singh, Former Chairman, Rubber Board and rubber sector expert, Dr Sawar Dhanania , Executive Director, Rubber Board, M Vasanthagesan , Director, Tribal Welfare Dept, Govt of Tripura, Prabhu S , Research Officer, Tribal Welfare Dept, Govt of Tripura, Subodh Debbarma and several other officers and representatives of the board.
