Career Counselling and Vocational Guidance Programme organised by the District Employment Exchange

A one-day Career Counselling and Vocational Guidance Programme was organised today at Madhab Choudhury College (M.C. College), Barpeta. The event was held under the aegis of the Department of Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Government of Assam, in collaboration with the District Employment Exchange, Barpeta.

The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Dr. Prakash Chandra Sarma, Principal of M.C. College. In a poignant tribute, the gathering honoured the late artist Zubeen Garg through a performance of his iconic composition “Mayabini,” commemorating his artistic legacy and enduring cultural influence.

Students representing a number of prominent educational institutions across the district participated in the event. These included Barpeta Government Higher Secondary School, Dakshin Barpeta Vidyamandir Higher Secondary School, Barpeta Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Barpeta College, Ethos Junior College, Ambedkar Academy, and ITI Barpeta. Additionally, around five hundred students from M.C. College took part in the day’s programme.

The initiative sought to bridge the divide between formal education and employability. By acquainting students with the dynamic and rapidly evolving career landscape, the programme underscored the imperative of adaptability, skill acquisition, and vocational awareness in a globalised economy increasingly shaped by technological advancement. It further emphasised the necessity of informed career decision-making, guided mentorship, and strategic planning as essential tools for empowering the youth of Barpeta to navigate the challenges and possibilities of the contemporary professional world.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. Joyjit Deka, Assistant Professor at Bhattadev University, and presided over by Ruhul Amin, In-charge Assistant Director of the District Employment Exchange, Barpeta. The session featured insightful deliberations by Biswajit Nath, Employment Officer, District Employment Exchange, Guwahati, who attended as a resource person. Apurba Roy, In-charge Employment Officer of the District Employment Exchange, Nalbari, was also in attendance. The event was further graced by the presence of Dr. Parag Kumar Barman, Director of the Student Welfare Council, Bhattadev University, as a special guest, accompanied by Dr. Debajyoti Dutta, Assistant Professor at Bhattadev University.
