DSF & NEHU Celebrate World Environment Day 2023

The North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in collaboration with Dinesh Shahra Foundation (DSF), Mumbai celebrated World Environment Day on June 5, 2023 raising awareness on a host of issues pertaining to the environment.
The event was held at the Multi-use Convention Hall, NEHU, Shillong with several dignitaries present at the occasion. Renowned industrialist and the man behind “Yellow Revolution” Dr. Dinesh Shahra, Chairman, DSF was the chief guest for the event.
The day commenced with a tree plantation drive in NEHU campus where Dr. Dinesh Shahra, took the lead along with the Vice Chancellor of NEHU, Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla and other faculty and staff members of the institution.
The event then followed with a welcome address by Prof. Devesh Walia, Department of Geology, NEHU, Shillong, President RCOCS and an address by Assistant Governor, Rtn Pubalee Bujarbaruah.
Vice-Chancellor, NEHU, Prof. Shankar Shukla put forward his valuable remarks on the occasion and the various resources adopted by the institution to create a healthy environment where students are able to practice and execute environment friendly habits within and outside the educational premises.
With the sole purpose of becoming the harbingers of a new spring where people take strides in working towards a safer and a greener planet, the event promised to uphold the ideals of NEHU which have always imparted the ideology of protecting the natural environment.
The day also saw an impactful panel discussion on “Solutions to Plastic Pollution” with panellists Dr Dinesh Shahra, Chairman, DSF; Prof.D. Paul, Dept. of EVS, NEHU; Mr. Naba Bhattacharjee, Chairman, SEAC; Ms. Roshni Subba, President, SEED, Shillong; Prof. Brinda Bazeley Kharbirymba, Head, Department of Education, NEHU and Dr. P.K. Goswami, Director, INBIGS, ONGC, Jorhat speaking on several initiatives to arrest the issue of plastic pollution without compromising with the environment.
The panellists spoke in length about the negative impact of discarded plastics on the environment and how a comprehensive discussion and effective action through various awareness programmes from the school level is the need of the hours.
The Chief Guest for the event Mr. Dinesh Shahra provided his valuable insights and suggestions based on his experience, while urging the youth to be proactive in building a world devoid of any damage to the environment.
The Dinesh Shahra Foundation situated in Mumbai, Maharashtra has been built with an intention to ‘Give Back’ to the entities that are responsible for material and spiritual development of the society. The DSF is driven by a single goal to make the world a better place for all. The organisation strives to build productive relationships and make a positive impact in the society through various pursuits.
DSF founder Mr. Dinesh Shahra is one of the few industrialists who successfully made an indelible mark in the Indian agriculture sector. By spearheading the ‘yellow revolution’, Mr. Shahra played a pivotal role in transforming Madhya Pradesh into the “soy bowl of India”,
