Governor takes stock of flood situation, asks authorities to ensure timely relief and rehabilitation
Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya today reviewed the prevailing flood situation in the State, with special focus on the flood-affected districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat, at a meeting held at Lok Bhavan.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Smt. L. Sweety Changsan, along with senior officials of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department and the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
During the meeting, Smt. Changsan gave a detailed presentation on the current flood scenario across the State. She apprised the Governor of the extent of inundation, the districts and population affected, the functioning of relief camps, deployment of rescue teams, availability of essential commodities, restoration of damaged infrastructure and the measures being undertaken by the State Government to provide immediate assistance to the affected people.
Reviewing the situation, the Governor directed the concerned departments and agencies to ensure that rescue and relief operations continue uninterrupted and that all flood-affected people receive timely assistance. He emphasised the need to provide adequate relief materials, safe shelter, potable drinking water, healthcare services and other essential support to those affected.
The Governor also stressed that special care should be taken to address the needs of vulnerable sections of society, including women, children, senior citizens and persons with disabilities, so that they receive prompt and adequate assistance during the crisis.
Calling for continued vigilance, Shri Acharya asked the officials to maintain close coordination among all departments and field agencies to minimise the hardships faced by the affected population. He further underscored the importance of ensuring the uninterrupted supply of essential services in the flood-hit areas. He reiterated that every possible effort should be made to provide timely relief and facilitate the early rehabilitation of the affected families.
The Governor also appreciated the tireless efforts of the district administrations, ASDMA, SDRF, NDRF, police personnel, healthcare workers, NGOs, volunteers and all other agencies engaged in rescue and relief operations. Expressing confidence in the collective efforts of all stakeholders, he said that the State would be able to effectively overcome the challenges posed by the current flood situation through coordinated action and dedicated service.
Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor S.S.Meenakshi Sundaram, and officers of Lok Bhavan were also present in the meeting.
