Kherkatia College, a leading educational institution in Upper Majuli, celebrated a welcoming ceremony (Fresher’s function) for the students enrolled in 2022 on Friday, as usual. The first program started at 9 am with the flag hoisting by the office bearers of Students’ Union and Professor Dr. Upen Borah. The second program was the martyrs’ Tribute by Shibani Doley Assistant General Secretary of College Students’ Union. In that program was a minute’s silence for the souls of the martyrs. The college welcomed the new student’s with Gumrag dance from the archway at 10:30 am. The college welcomed Juri Borah Borgohain, a renowned writer, novelist and poet of Assam, who was invited as a Specific speakers at 11am. The stage meeting began with a Borgeet performance by Lakshipriya Khanikar at 11:20 am.The stage program was moderated by Dr. Beauty Gogoi and presided over by the Principal of the college, Dr. Jahnabee Lahakar Barua. The inaugural address was delivered by Professor Vidhan Kumar,
Head of English Department. There are many important topics addressed to the students by writer-novelist, poet and story writer
Juri Borah Borgohain. Notably, Social media like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Reels have become very addictive and have engulfed the current society and students. These social media addictions are wasting our precious time.Therefore, we should keep distance ourselves from these and pay attention to the study of books. The event was attended by former Principal Phanidhar Tahu as the chief guest. There are many important issues that the students and faculty discussed with Juri Borah Borgohain at the Intimate conversation at 2 pm.The meeting was enhanced by a colorful cultural programme. At the end of the meeting, Dr. Upen Borah gave a vote of thanks to all the participants.
