Northeast Witnessing Unprecedented Development Under PM Modi’s Leadership: Pabitra Margherita

Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, on Friday, highlighted the significant strides made by the Northeastern region under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.Addressing the ‘Meet The Press’ programme organized by the North East Media Forum (NEMF), Margherita attributed the region’s development to the Centre’s proactive policies. The Modi government has ensured that the Northeast Region receives the attention it deserves, he said.
The Budget allocation for the Northeast Region has increased substantially under the BJP-led government compared to the previous Congress-led UPA regime. This significant hike is a testament to the government’s commitment to the region’s development.
The Minister highlighted the significant improvement in connectivity in the region, citing the construction of over 11,000 km of highways and the development of more than 10 bridges over the Brahmaputra River. Earlier, there were only three bridges over Brahmaputra, but now the region is set to get over 10 bridges.Margherita attributed the decline in insurgency-related incidents in the Northeast Region to the government’s efforts. Insurgency has declined in NER, with more than 10,000 youths surrendering, he said, adding that peace and harmony have been restored in the region.
The Minister claimed that rhino poaching has been brought under control in Assam, with cases almost reaching zero. According to Margherita, rhino poaching cases are almost zero in Assam, showcasing the government’s success in conservation efforts.As Minister of State for Textiles, Margherita highlighted the government’s initiatives to promote weavers and artisans from the Northeastern region. The government is trying to link them with global markets, and they will be showcased at various national and global events.
Margherita reaffirmed the government’s commitment to zero tolerance against cross-border terrorism. Our delegations would carry forward zero tolerance against cross-border terrorism, he said, referring to the recent ‘Operation Sindoor’.
