Driving Sustainable Development: Meghalaya Communities Benefit from Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and MNREDA’s Collaborative Sessions
The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, in collaboration with the Meghalaya Non-Conventional & Rural Energy Development Agency (MNREDA) hosted an enlightening series of sessions to commemorate World Environment Day. The event, held at the State Convention Centre in Shillong, aimed to share comprehensive, data-driven progress with the communities of Meghalaya and promote the utilization of renewable energy sources in the state.
Experts from the Meghalaya Non-Conventional & Rural Energy Development Agency delivered captivating insights into the latest advancements in the field of renewable energy and their potential applications within the state. The attendees were treated to a cultural program performed by local artists, followed by a detailed awareness presentation by Ms. Elizabeth Kharjana, Project Officer at MNREDA.
As part of the celebration, students from four Shillong high schools – Brookside Adventist Higher Secondary School, St. George Higher Secondary School, Laban Assamese Girls Higher Secondary School, and Bhanu Bhakta Nepali Pro Secondary School, participated in a drawing contest with the theme “Renewable Energy for a Better Tomorrow.” Their imaginative artwork demonstrated the students’ comprehension and vision for a sustainable future. The event also included a display of prototype devices, allowing attendees to interact with the real-time impact of the Government of Meghalaya’s upcoming Solar Mission. These devices are a representation of the state’s commitment to renewable energy, as well as a glimpse into the future possibilities of sustainable living.
The event also featured an exhibition on Renewable Resources, led by Arup Chakraborty Junior Engineer, MNREDA, providing valuable insights into the various renewable energy options available. Additionally, a sensitization session was conducted for village headmen from villages such as Sunny Hill, Lumdiengtri, Lama Villa, Jaiwai Langsning, Dymmiew, Lumkshaid, Mawprem, Qualapaty, Nongsohphoh, and Laitumkhrah. The session focused on the PM Kusum scheme and Biogas scheme with Arup Chakraborty and Assistant Director (Planning) of MNREDA, Shri Danseng M. Sangma highlighting the potential benefits. A dedicated awareness session on solar energy was also hosted by the Assistant Director (SOLAR) of MNREDA, Shri Rafikul Islam. The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and MNREDA remain committed to driving sustainable development and promoting the adoption of renewable energy sources in Meghalaya.
