Government of Meghalaya gets their citizens back home

Due to the ongoing situation in Manipur, Government of Meghalaya is getting their citizens back home.Students and citizens who have expressed their wish to come back home to Meghalaya are being ferried back.

Several students reach Guwahati airport from Imphal with support from Govt.of Manipur.In addition to two Indigo flights, two more flights from Alliance Air and Air India respectively have been pushed into service towards quick and easy transfer of the citizens so, that they can peacefully reach their respective homes. Six vehicles are in continuous stand-by mode at the Guwahati airport to ferry these students and citizens to Shillong and Tura. Ministry of Home Affairs, GOl extended their deepest support during these testing times.

Two Officers from Government of Meghalaya have been deployed to Imphal to ensure seamless coordination with Government of Manipur and other agencies to help and support the students and citizens for their travel to Meghalaya.

Following two officers have been deployed towards seamless coordination- Peter Passah, Additional Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills and John Danggo, Assistant Inspector, Excise, East Khasi Hills.

Several batches of students have already been airlifted by multiple special flights arranged by Government of Meghalaya and they have arrived their respective homes.

There will be several such special flights for the students and citizens so, that they can reach their respective homes.

One such happy student who reached her home in Meghalaya, Miss Ajakchera G Momin mentioned about their ordeal – that initially they didn’t realize the seriousness of the situation but in the evening, they got a message from their hostel authorities advising them to stay indoors as the trouble had spread. Through the Meghalaya Association they contacted the senior authorities in Meghalaya who in turn reached out to all of them keeping a regular flow of information about steps being taken. She further mentioned: “Govt was very fast and prompt in their response to our appeals. Not only that, but the government also ensured that we did not have any difficulties during our journey. From refreshments at the airport and dinner on the road to comfortable buses to reach home.”
