In five years, BJP has turned Tripura from a land ridden with insurgency and violence during the communist rule to a peaceful and prosperous state, party national president J P Nadda said here on Friday, kicking off the Tripura election campaign.
Addressing a Vijay Sankalp rally at Amarpur in Gomati district, Nadda said, “Prime Minister Modi had said Tripura could also progress just like any other part of the country, and the state’s development in the last five years bears testimony to his very belief.”
“Today’s Tripura is not the old Tripura any longer.This is a ‘New Tripura’, filled with aspirations and achievements.The double-engine government (used to refer to BJP’s government both at the Centre and in state) has truly transformed the face and fortune of the northeastern state, which is marching towards an all-round development,” he asserted.
Listing the welfare schemes of the government, the BJP president said, “Your vote to BJP is required to build a strong economy in the state and to finish the Rs. 4350 crore projects recently launched by the PM in Tripura.” On the Union Budget, Nadda said it is the first budget of ‘Amrit Kaal’ and is filled with aspirations and a framework to make the nation’s economy truly inclusive and empowered.
Mocking at the CPM and the Congress for contesting the election jointly, Nadda said
they have come together not for the state’s development but to save their existence.
For the first time in the state, the CPM, which ruled Tripura for 25 years until 2018, and the Congress have entered into a seat-sharing deal to contest the polls for the 60-member assembly.The CPM will contest in 43 seats
while the other Left Front constituents Forward Block, RSP and CPI will fight in one
constituency each.While the Congress will contest in 13 seats, the Left Front is supporting an independent candidate in the Ramnagar constituency.
Tripura used to witness insurgency, violence
and road blockades before the 2018 assembly election, but the ‘double engine’ government ensured peace after signing an agreement
with the outlawed insurgent group National Liberation Front of Tripura in 2019, Nadda said.The assembly polls will be held in the state on February 16. Votes will be counted on March2.
