16-Day Campaign Against Gender-Based Violence Concludes with Awareness Rally in Darrang

The district of Darrang marked the conclusion of the 16-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women with an awareness rally organised on Friday at Sanowa HS School, Sipajhar. The rally, carried out by students of Sanowa HS School, formed a key part of the Gender-Based Violence and Digital Safety Ring Initiative led by SANKALP: Hub for Empowerment of Women, Darrang under the Women & Child Development Department.

The closing event also included a special district-level awareness programme organised in alignment with the ongoing 100 Days Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat campaign, which aims to eliminate child marriage across the district.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by the District Social Welfare Officer, followed by an objective-sharing session that emphasised the need to strengthen community awareness on gender-based violence and digital safety.
A series of technical sessions were conducted where speakers highlighted crucial topics such as digital safety, community response to digital violence, cyber security, the POCSO Act and the legal protections available to women and children. The sessions aimed to empower students, frontline workers and community members with practical knowledge to respond effectively to digital and gender-based threats.

In connection with the Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat initiative, an anemia screening camp was organised in collaboration with ITC and the Health Department. Informative leaflets containing essential safety guidelines and helpline numbers were distributed to participants. The programme also featured a yoga session conducted by Susmita Deka, a Khelo India yoga player, promoting holistic well-being among attendees. A total of 600 participants took part in the campaign’s closing programme, reaffirming their commitment to building a child-marriage-free society and ensuring safer digital environments for children and women.

The event was graced by the presence of Co-District Commissioner Papari Das, DSWO Kukheswar Bora, DLSA Advocate Mizazul Hoque, Joint Director of Health Services Dilliram Adhikary, the Officer-in-Charge of Sipajhar Police Station, the Child Development Project Officer of Sipajhar ICDS, the Goan Panchayat President of Sanowa GP, representatives from Sipajhar BPHC and Child Helpline, officials of SANKALP: Hub, Darrang, supervisors, ASHA workers, Anganwadi Workers, SHG members, PRI members, Nari Adalat members, along with the principal and teachers of Sanowa HS School.
