Agriculture Minister Pijush Hazarika distributes MMUA cheques to 22,818 beneficiaries in Dhing

Minister for Agriculture, Irrigation, and Parliamentary Affairs Pijush Hazarika today distributed Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan (MMUA) cheques to 22,818 beneficiaries in Dhing, Nagaon.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister stated that this is not only ten thousand rupees but an empowering tool for the women members of society to earn a livelihood and achieve economic independence. The Minister urged the beneficiaries to properly utilize the Rs 10,000 seed money to set up businesses and become eligible to receive subsequent payments of Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000 under the MMUA.

Minister Hazarika also spoke about welfare initiatives like PMAY houses, improved road infrastructure, free rations to poor families and free admission to schools and colleges under the present Central and State governments. He highlighted how all encompassing development has been ushered in by the State government led by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. He also announced that distribution of free rations would be restarted from next month. He emphasized that the present government is unbiased in giving benefits to people, cutting across linguistic and religious divides, and no area will be left untouched by development measures.

He further spoke about how flood protection measures have helped people in the Dhing constituency cultivate two or more crops. Stating that poor, meritorious students have got government jobs under the present government, Minister Hazarika asserted that corruption in the recruitment process during the earlier government’s tenure has been completely eradicated.

Sharing his vision for the Agriculture Department, Minister Hazarika urged the people to take up farming to contribute to Assam’s economic development. He assured the farmers of all possible help from both the Agriculture and Irrigation departments.

MLAs Mehbub Mukhtar and Rupak Sarma, along with the DC of Nagaon, were also present at the meeting.

Later in the day, the Minister attended a programme at Bhomoraguri and distributed land pattas to 81 families of the Nagaon-Batadrava constituency. He also distributed MMUA cheques to a few beneficiaries at the programme.

Speaking at the function, the Minister said that those who received land pattas would now also be eligible for farmer registration, which would provide them with a unique ID. This registration will make them eligible to receive benefits under different government schemes.

He called on the people to take up farming and not keep their lands lying idle. He stressed the importance of multiple cropping with coconuts, areca nuts, black pepper etc for increasing farm income.
