A review meeting on preparedness for international Year of Millet 2023 was held at the Directorate of Agriculture conference hall, Kohima on November 18.addressing at the meeting, Joint Director of Agriculture, N Jacob Yanthan said that the objective of International Year of Millet 2023 is to elevate awareness of the contribution of millets to food security and nutrition and also to motivate Farmers on improving sustainable production and quality of millets. He said that the significance of Millet are less expensive and nutritionally superior to wheat and rice owing to their high protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals, stated a press release received here.speaking on the preparedness,yanthan added that Millets are resilient climate smart crops that can grow on poor soils with little or no external inputs and are capable of growing under drought conditions even in very low rainfall regimes and these grains were one of the first plants domesticated for food and is grown in about 131 countries, which is also the traditional food for the people. He also further encouraged to focus on the preparedness of Millet 2023.Additional Director of agriculture, C Peter yanthan encouraged the officers and staff to reorient themselves and to be the role models when they go back in their respective districts.
