Assam Governor extends greetings on Rongali Bihu and Assamese New Year

Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya extended his warm greetings on the auspicious occasion of Rongali Bihu and the Assamese New Year to the people of Assam. The Governor paid tributes to Zubeen Garg during the event.
Addressing a Bihu function organised by the Kharghuli Rongali Bihu Sanmilan here today, the Governor stated that Rongali Bihu symbolizes new beginnings, hope, and togetherness, and plays a vital role in strengthening Assam’s rich cultural traditions while bringing joy, peace, and prosperity to society.Describing India as a land of festivals, he noted that such occasions promote social harmony,cultural identity, and unity.Highlighting Assam’s unique character, the Governor said that the State represents a harmonious confluence of diverse communities, languages, and traditions,forming the greater Assamese identity. He observed that Rongali Bihu, marking the advent of spring and the Assamese New Year, reflects the deep bond between people and nature and inspires collective celebration.
Sharing his personal experience, the Governor stated that his close association with Assam has helped him understand the deep respect and pride with which people preserve their traditions. The love for nature among the people of Assam, he said, is the soul of the State, and Rongali Bihu is its most graceful expression.
He further noted that as an agrarian festival, Bihu captures the hopes and aspirations of farmers through its songs and dances, making it deeply meaningful. The Governor also highlighted that Bihu has now transcended geographical boundaries and gained global recognition. Assamese communities across India and the world celebrate it with great enthusiasm, showcasing Assam’s cultural vibrancy on international platforms. He expressed pride that collective efforts of the State Government and people have brought global recognition to Rongali Bihu, including its acknowledgment in the Guinness World Records, which stands as a testament to Assam’s rich cultural heritage.On this occasion the Governor unveiled the souvenir “Luit”. Earlier the Kharghuli Rongali Bihu Sanmilan President Dibyajyoti Kalita delivered the welcome address while the Sanmilan Working President Naba Kr Deka offered the vote of thanks.
Member of Parliament, Bijulee Kalita Medhi, CMD, AM Television, Sanjive Narain and a host of dignitaries were present during the event. Earlier on the day the Governor celebrated Goru Bihu traditional way at Lok Bhavan
