Career Talk on Logistics Sector Opens New Career Pathways for Students and Parents

The Department of Applied Management, Assam Skill University, successfully organized a career awareness programme titled “Career Talk” on the theme “Career Prospects in the Logistics Sector of India” at the S. M. Das Lecture Gallery, B. Borooah College. The event brought together students from various schools and colleges across Guwahati, creating an informative platform to explore emerging opportunities in the logistics industry.

The inaugural session was chaired by Shri Subhash Chandra Das, IAS (Retd.), Vice Chancellor, Assam Skill University, and graced by Dr. Satyendra Nath Barman, Principal, B. Borooah College, as Chief Guest. The event also featured Mr. Parag Kashyap, General Manager (North East Head), Ekart Logistics (Instakart Services Pvt. Ltd.), as Guest of Honour, and Dr. Abhigyan Prasad, Associate Professor, Department of English, B. Borooah College, as Special Guest.

The event also marked the official release of the second annual report of the Department of Applied Management, a comprehensive overview of last year’s departmental activities, student successes, and faculty accolades.

In his technical session, Mr. Parag Kashyap delivered an engaging presentation on “Careers in Logistics and Supply Chain: Industry Insights on Skills and Opportunities,” highlighting the growth of the logistics sector and the range of career options available to young aspirants. He emphasized the importance of industry-relevant skills, adaptability, and practical knowledge for building successful careers in the sector. He also shared his testimony about his life journey from a small village in Assam to being the General Manager of Ekart logistics.

The second technical session, delivered online by Prof. S. Ganesan, Head, Education Initiatives, Logistic Sector Skill Council, focused on “From Learning to Earning: Opportunities and Skill Development through Industry-Aligned Courses.” The session underlined the value of skill-based learning and industry-aligned education in helping students transition smoothly from academics to employment. He emphasized on the need for skilled human resource in the field of Logistics Management. He also highlighted on the need for specialized courses like BBA (Logistics) introduced by the Department of Applied Management, Assam Skill University.

During her concluding remarks, Prof. Juthika Konwar, Head of Department, Department of Applied Management, Assam Skill University, highlighted the department’s newly introduced programmes — BBA in Logistics Management and MBA specialization in Logistics and Supply Chain Management. She explained that these courses are designed to bridge the gap between industry requirements and academic learning through a structured one-year apprenticeship in the BBA programme and a one-semester apprenticeship in the MBA programme. She also informed the participants that both the above-mentioned courses are open for admission now.

The programme concluded with an interactive Q&A session titled “Ask the Experts: Open Interaction on Careers in Logistics,” where participants actively engaged with the speakers and sought guidance on career pathways, skill requirements, and future opportunities in logistics.

The Career Talk was well received by the participants, and it served as a meaningful initiative to inspire the next generation of learners in North East India to consider promising career opportunities in one of India’s fastest-growing sectors.
