World Hepatitis Day Observed in Kamrup Metro District

World Hepatitis Day was observed today in Kamrup Metro district along with the rest of the state. The district level observance was launched at Dhirenpara FRU by Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Saikia, the Joint Director of Health Services, Kamrup Metro.

Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saikia urged everyone to undergo Hepatitis B screening and receive vaccination to protect themselves from the disease. He also appealed to all healthcare workers to ensure that every newborn receives the birth dose of the Hepatitis B vaccine within 24 hours of birth.

As part of the week long campaign from 28 July to 3 August, Hepatitis B screening will be conducted for all pregnant women across the district. In addition, screening will be carried out among high-risk populations, including drug addicts and transgender persons.

The inaugural programme was attended by Dr. Kanak Ch Talukdar, the District Surveillance Officer (IDSP) & District Nodal Officer-Hepatitis Control Programme, Dr. Bhabendra Kumar Das, the District Immunization Officer, Dr. Ankit Jain, the Medical Officer, Blood Bank-GMCH, Dr Pallabi Baruah, the SDM&HO ic, Dhirenpara Zone, Officials from DPMU and BPMU NHM, Kamrup Metro and other officials and staff of the FRU.
