CSR Head Reviews Women-Led Sarthebari Metal Craft Project

Abhinav Das, CSR Regional Head of North East Zone for LIC Housing Finance Limited (LIC HFL), visited the project site on May 30, 2026, to review the ongoing LIC HFL Sangam initiative being implemented by APRINS for the preservation and development of Assam’s traditional GI-tagged Sarthebari Metal Craft.

During the visit, Mr. Das interacted with women beneficiaries, took stock of the progress of the programme, and inspected the Common Facility Centre (CFC) established under the project. The Managing Director of APRINS, Mr Chandan Borthakur,the implementing agency, was also present during the meeting.

The LIC HFL Sangam programme, implemented by APRINS, aims to strengthen the traditional GI-tagged Sarthebari Metal Craft of Assam through comprehensive interventions including skill development, entrepreneurship support, branding, infrastructure enhancement, and market linkage activities. The initiative focuses on improving artisan livelihoods while preserving Assam’s rich cultural heritage.

Sarthebari, which is located in Assam’s Barpeta district is an aspirational district, which is renowned for its handcrafted bell metal products. It has earned GI recognition for their distinctive craftsmanship and cultural significance.

Key Focus Areas of the Programme:
-Skill Development: Modern metal craft techniques, product finishing & polishing, and design innovation training

-Branding & Market Linkage: Product branding & packaging, exhibition & fair participation, and retail & digital market promotion
-Infrastructure Support: Common Facility Centre (CFC) and improved production tools & facilities

Products being developed under the initiative include Traditional Bell Metal Utensils, Decorative Craft Items, Handmade Serving Sets, Assamese Heritage Products, and Gift & Utility Items.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Abhinav Das appreciated the efforts of APRINS and the dedication of the women artisans, emphasizing LIC HFL’s commitment to community development and sustainable livelihood programmes through the Sangam initiative.
APRINS, which works towards sustainable livelihood development, rural innovation, and community empowerment across Northeast India, expressed gratitude for the continued support from LIC HFL.
