A Farmers Mobilization and Awareness Program was held on 12th March 2025 at the Dhanubhanga Anchalik Unnayan Samiti Conference Hall in Rongjuli Tehsil,Goalpara district,Assam.It was part of the PM-DevINE Scheme for the project A Value Chain on Utilization of Banana Pseudostem for Value-Added Products implemented by the North East Center for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR),an autonomous body under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, headquartered at Shillong.
The program is a part of the ongoing efforts to promote sustainable livelihoods and rural
entrepreneurship by encouraging the utilization of banana pseudostem for value addition such as banana fiber,liquid fertilizer, compost, paper, yarn, and vegan leather alternatives.The training was conducted by CTRD, with Ms. Nazneen Rafia Medhi, a food technology expert,who guided the participants on developing market-ready products such as banana fiber,bioenzymes, compost, and food-based innovations.
This initiative is expected to boost rural entrepreneurship, reduce agricultural waste, and promote sustainable industrial development in Northeast India.
